Welcome to Arc of the Lake
Mission Statement
Our mission at the Arc of the Lake is to lead the effort in our community to enable those families and individuals with disabilities to enjoy all the same rights and opportunities as everyone else.
Webster defines "Community" as "a unified body of individuals" and that is exactly the definition that the Arc of the Lake is trying to promote. The Arc of the Lake believes that we can only consider ourselves an ideal community if we quit advocating segregated work opportunities, segregated living arrangements, segregated educational goals, and segregated recreational activities.
Employment
The Arc believes that people should be able to work in competitive employment for fair wages regardless of disability.
Independent Living
The Arc believes that people should be able to live in the home of their choice and be provided the support necessary to live as independently as possible.
Education
The Arc believes that every child should have a goal of full inclusion in a general education classroom. The Arc also believes that young adults with disabilities should be encouraged to further their education after high school.
Transition
The Arc believes that young adults with disabilities should begin preparing for their transition into the community as early as possible.
Recreation
The Arc believes that people should, regardless of their disability, be encouraged to participate in the same recreational activities as their typically functioning peers.
Community Awareness
The Arc believes that community awareness is the key to promoting tolerance of diversity and inclusion.
Faith-based Inclusion
The Arc believes in encouraging faith based organizations to play an active part in supporting the needs of disabled individuals.
